CELTA

What is CELTA? CELTA is an entry-level course, which means that it is aimed at teachers with no previous classroom experience. CELTA certification is an initial qualification for people with little or no previous teaching experience and opens up a whole world of exciting teaching opportunities.

CELTA is accepted throughout the world by organizations which employ English Language teachers. CELTA is a prerequisite for employment in many parts of the world, and so is increasingly taken by US or Canadian instructors who later wish to be hired outside North America, Korea and Japan.

About The CELTA

CELTA is also the first module of a wider qualification, which will meet the requirements for teachers of ESOL in further and adult education and which has recognition from FENTO (The Further Education National Training Organization). The CELTA is recognized by TEFL employers worldwide, including: language schools such as International House, ELSI and EF; many overseas public schools, colleges and other employers; and other major professional organizations.

CELTA is a practically-oriented four-week training course involving 100 contact hours divided into class input, tutorial support, supervised lesson planning, feedback and peer observation. The CELTA is awarded upon passing the course, which includes at least six hours of supervised teaching practice to real English language students, at two different levels.

Getting The CELTA

The CELTA lesson plan, as defined by the University of Cambridge, is designed to help candidates develop an awareness of language and the description of English and apply these in their professional practice. Courses offer training in a communicative teaching approach based on the best of current practical classroom techniques.

Assignments are set on language systems, classroom teaching, learners and learning contexts and learning/teaching materials. Courses provide expert instruction in methodology and language analysis by Cambridge approved trainers.

The Costs Of CELTA Certification

To secure a place once you have been accepted you should ensure that the full fee is paid at least six weeks before the course begins. The course fees for full time and part time courses are $2,780 and include the examination fee to Cambridge ESOL, CELTA cost for courses, and CELTA course books.

Some may include the costs for all materials for CELTA assignments, accommodation, daily breakfast and lunch, a monthly card for travel on the Metro, and transport to and from the school on arrival and departure. There are cheap CELTA courses available, but remember – you get what you pay for.
